General Blackboard Information

Blackboard is an online website that hosts all of the courses for BeADisciple.com.  Think of it as a school building that you walk into, where each of your courses meet in separate rooms.  The only thing you need to access Blackboard is a decent internet connection.

You don’t need to download any software to access your course on Blackboard; you will simply go to a website and log in to access your courses. The version of the Blackboard software we use is called Blackboard Learn.

There are minimum browser requirements to use Blackboard Learn.  Check the link below to see if your system is compatible.

On the above page, look for this sentence “You are viewing Original Course View content.”  If it says Ultra View instead, change it by clicking on the blue “Go to Original Course View page.”  If you see a green check mark with SUPPORTED then you are all set.  If not, follow the prompts on the page.

You may wish to download Google Chrome to use as an alternative browser if you have difficulty with your preferred browser.  Google Chrome is known to work best with Blackboard.

While you don’t need to download any Blackboard software, you might find that you need to update some of the software on your own computer (such as JavaAdobe Acrobat Reader, or QuickTime) in order for the course sites to work correctly for you.  These updates are free and simple to install.  Email beadisciple@sckans.edu for technical assistance if something does not seem to be working correctly.

How do I sign into Blackboard?

Between 10:00 am and noon (US Central Time) on the advertised start date of your online course, you will receive an email with login information, a link to the web location, and instructions. Occasionally, spam filters will catch this email, so if you do not receive it by noon US Central Time on the day your course is to begin, you should check your email’s spam folder.  If the login email is not in the spam folder either, click here to view the instructions in a browser window. (If your course hasn’t started yet, these instructions might not work for you.)

Please mark your course’s start day on your calendar and watch for the email. It is your responsibility to expect the email and let us know if you do not receive it. If you have not logged in by the 3rd day of the course, your instructor will likely email you to check in, but by then you may be behind. Don’t let this happen to you! Be kind to yourself and make sure you put your course on your calendar.

Having trouble with Blackboard?

Sometimes technology doesn’t work the way it should. If you’re enrolled and logged in to one of our courses and are having trouble with the course site, tell us about it here.  We’ll pass it on to our tech people and let them know something is wrong.

If you didn’t receive the login instructions, click here to see them in a browser.  (Remember, Blackboard accounts are activated sometime between 10:00 am and noon Central time on the scheduled start day for the course.)

How do I reset my password?

  • To change your password on Blackboard:
    • Login to Blackboard using your current email and password.  If you don’t remember your password, please email Blackboard Administrator Michael Beardslee at michael.beardslee@skcans.edu

    • Alternately, you can try the “Forgot My Password?” selection on the Blackboard login page, but keep in mind it is very case and space sensitive so  type it in exactly the way you want it.
    • If you remember your password, then login and click on the Personal Information link in the left-hand ‘Tools’ column.
    • Select ‘Change Password.’
    • Enter your new preferred password twice and click the submit button at the bottom of the form. Passwords are case-sensitive: capital letters and lower-case letters must be entered exactly how you would like them to be used in your password.
